Backed your car into the garage door? Hail damage? A single dented or cracked panel doesn’t always mean a whole new door — but sometimes it does. UGR assesses panel damage honestly and gives you both options: section-only replacement, or full door swap.

When Single-Panel Replacement Works
If your door is sectional (hinged horizontal panels) and the rest of the panels are in good shape, we can often order and replace just the damaged section. This works best when:
- Damage is limited to one panel (dent, crack, hole)
- The door brand and model are still in production (so we can match the panel)
- The rest of the door is structurally sound — no rust, no warping
- The door is less than ~10 years old
If matching panels are unavailable, the choice becomes either a colour-mismatched repair (cheaper but visible) or a full door replacement.
Common Panel Problems
- Dents from vehicles — backing into the door, even slowly
- Hail damage — Edmonton hail seasons leave dimples in metal panels
- Cracks & punctures — wood or composite panels in cold climates
- Rust through — bottom panels exposed to road salt and standing water
- Warping — sun-facing wood panels, or moisture damage
- Bent panel from off-track event — door came off track and crumpled at the corner
Pricing Guidance
Single-panel replacement is highly variable — the panel itself depends on door brand, model, and current parts availability. We give you a firm quote during the free inspection.
| Service | Price (CAD) |
|---|---|
| Free inspection & quote | $0 |
| Single-panel labour (panel cost extra) | quoted on inspection |
| Hinge repair & replacement, 3–4 hinges | $150 |
| Full hinge replacement (all hinges) | $300 |
| Full garage door replacement (16×7 ft) | $2,199 |
Repair vs. Full Replacement — Honest Math
If a single panel costs (parts + labour) more than ~40–50% of a full door replacement, replacement is usually the better long-term value — you reset the warranty, get all-new hardware, and avoid the next-panel-failure trap. We’ll lay out both numbers and let you decide.
FAQ
Can you match the existing panel colour?
Sometimes — if your door brand still produces matching panels. If not, we can paint a replacement panel to match (extra cost, decent but not perfect match) or recommend full replacement.
How long does single-panel replacement take?
Once the part is in: 1–2 hours. Lead time on the part itself is usually 5–10 business days from the supplier.
Can a dented panel still be safe to use?
If the dent is cosmetic only — yes, the door operates normally. If the panel is cracked or punctured, or if the dent is severe enough to bind in the tracks, the door must be repaired before regular use.
What if my door is from a brand that no longer exists?
This happens. Sometimes generic panels from a similar manufacturer can be adapted. More often, the right answer is a full door replacement — better value than chasing rare parts.
